We will teach you all the basics you need to know about caring for your new pets.
About this course:
When it comes to caring for chickens, you’ll be ahead of the flock with our course.
Chickens are very clever and make great pets when they receive the right care...and don’t forget those fresh eggs.
Find out how you can provide an enriched living environment for your fluffy fowl by learning about their behaviour, feeding, diet, health, egg production, housing, safe handling and transport. They’ll never want to fly the coop!
- Learn appropriate nutrition and water requirements for chickens
- Learn about the primary health requirements and husbandry practices
- Learn about safe handling and restraint techniques
- Learn about housing and shelter requirements for chickens
- Discuss common health concerns, how to tell if a chicken is needing vet assistance and preventative measures
- Conduct a health check on a chicken

Closed in shoes for admittance into the barn. Weather appropriate clothing for outdoors
Cancellations & Refunds
If the organiser cancels the class:
You are entitled to a full refund.
If you can't attend the class:
- A refund can be requested 7 days before class starts. Free of charge.
- A transfer can be requested 7 days before the class starts. Free of charge.
- A credit note can be requested 7 days before the class starts. Free of charge.
No changes will be allowed after these times.
Terms & Conditions
Face to Face courses
- Program activities are conducted by RSPCA Victoria Education Officers and staff. RSPCA Victoria reserves the right to alter activities or cease programs should staff and participant safety be compromised.
- For safety reasons, participants must wear appropriate clothing and closed-in shoes.
- RSPCA Victoria reserves the right to cancel the class should minimum numbers not be met. A full refund will apply in these circumstances.
