I attended the Hobby farm class on sat 11th Feb.
It was very informative and hands on with some of the sheep and Goats.
I learnt a few things that I didn't know or understand and Rachael and Jess spoke very clearly and helped out with all our questions.
I would definitely attend more classes if they become available.
I can’t tell you how informative and helpful this short course was… both Rachael and Yaz were excellent presenters.
I have had a couple of sheep for about three years now and assumed I was doing everything right because I’ve had no issues and they always seem healthy and happy.
There was a number of things I learnt today that I could do a lot better such as hoof care, body condition scoring and parasite detection / control.
I also hadn’t really considered adding any environmental enrichment to ensure they are mentally stimulated.
NLIS tagging is another requirement I wasn’t aware of and with only two head of sheep I didn’t feel comfortable asking for advice from my local stock feed / agriculture store because I’m not a commercial breeder.
It far exceeded my expectations and the practical demonstration of how to physically control livestock and confidently check / trim their hooves was so helpful.
Worth every cent and I now feel a lot more confident and capable of looking after my sheep and potentially adding some cattle to my property.
